Organizing for Social Change

For the past five years I have been working to integrate my passion for positive social change and my background in project management and organizing. The quest for witnessing and being a part of change has taken me to four continents- across the US and Europe, to the edge of northern civilization, to Africa, and India. At each step of the way I have encountered farmers, community organizations, and local politicians helping each other and themselves. Seed banks, community health clinics, social entrepreneurs, complex direct fair trade systems, schools teaching organic and sustainable agriculture- the people of these places inspire confidence that positive social change is possible, if we each do our part.

It's been my good fortune to work for Lily Films  makers of the influential film on GMOs The Future of Food for the last five yearsDuring the time I've worked at Lily, we have produced a variety of short films and are getting ready to release a feature- all part of the same project: The Symphony of Soil which highlights Soil as the protagonist of our planetary story: the fundamental basis of a healthy food system.

Check out a clip from Symphony of the Soil here:

I have also been lucky enough to learn how to farm and practice on our two acre lease in Santa Cruz, California. Experimenting with how to create the most sustainable life and livelihood possible has brought me great joy over the past few years. To create change in one's own life has been incredibly rewarding. I look forward toward the next bend in the path and where it might take me.
