There seems nothing more romantic than flowers. Full luscious reds and oranges. Dew dripped and glistening. Growing flowers has become a passion, an obsession fed by nothing else. Damian and I have been growing dalias for the last few years; perfect like the dawn, we trade them for dinners at our favorite restaurant, for movie tickets at our local independent movie theater, and for massages a holistic health care center down town. My friends and house mates run a bike centered CSA called Free Wheelin' farm. Located half a mile from the ocean separated by nothing but mono cropped fields of brussel sprouts, this little half acre of organic mixed vegetables is surreal and picturesque. Once a year they throw a benefit Farm Art Party, a combination farmy art exhibition and harvest festival. I was privileged to be able show and sell my block prints to raise money for their endeavor. It was empowering being recognized as an artist.
